What We Do

Here at Terranaut Club…

We offer science and nature exploration programs for girls and under-represented genders (“girls+”) that range in length from day-long to multi-day, overnight experiences. All programs are taught by women in STEM.

Our programs feature hands-on, experiential learning in primarily outdoor settings, and explore science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) subjects through activities centred around marine biology and wildlife conservation, environmental science and sustainability, and data science and coding.

To achieve our mission of encouraging disadvantaged and under-represented girls+ to pursue STEM careers and become environmental leaders in their own communities, our programs are highly subsidized and offered either at a free or pay-what-you-can rate.

We welcome girls+ into 3 program options:

  • Junior (ages 9-12)
  • Intermediate (ages 12-15)
  • Advanced (ages 15-18)

Plus, our earn-your-way-back initiative encourages participants to complete a STEM or environmental leadership activity in their school or community to be able to return for another one of our programs!

OurΒ in-person programs are currently offered in 7 communities acrossΒ Nova Scotia: Bon Portage Island, Digby, Halifax, Kejimkujik National Park & National Historic Site, Lunenburg, and Wolfville, and one commmunity in New Brunswick: Fundy National Park. In-person programs include multi-day, overnight summer programs, data science and coding workshops, and day-long field trips. We’re always looking to expand our reach to new communities, and welcome potential collaborators orΒ sponsors!

So how can you take part?Β Participants must be nominated for our in-person summer programs by an adult that knows them well, and preference is given to girls who come from disadvantaged and/or under-represented ethnic backgrounds (African-Canadian, Indigenous, Hispanic/Latina). Other types of programs, including data science and coding workshops and field trips, are open registration.
