Summer 2021 COVID-19 Protocols
Please review the following COVID-19 restrictions, guidelines and safety measures currently in place for all Terranaut Club programs taking place in Nova Scotia for Summer 2021. Please read the Nova Scotia Guidelines for Summer Camps for additional information.
In-Person Activity Protocols
Programming: Terranaut Club’s summer programs prioritize being outdoors and interacting with the natural environment. We aim to lead our participants in a variety activities that prioritize and encourage time spent outdoors, as well as safe, hands-on learning in STEM. This year, due to COVID restrictions, registration for in-person programs will only be open to individuals living in Nova Scotia.
Program Capacity: Enrollment and registration for our Summer 2021 in-person programs will follow all Nova Scotia Public Health guidelines and safety measures. Currently, program capacity is capped at a maximum of 10 participants per program, with no more than 3 additional educators/volunteers.
Day Programs: All 2021 day programs will adhere to NS Public Health guidelines, as well as Terranaut Club protocols for physical distancing, sanitizing, COVID-19 pre-screening, and non-medical mask use.
Overnight Programs: If permitted by NS Public Health guidelines, overnight programs will take place in Summer 2021, and camping accommodations will be offered. For overnight programs hosted at a Provincial Park (i.e., Smiley’s, Blomidon), both NS Provincial Park guidelines, as well as Terranaut Club protocols will be adhered to. For overnight programs taking place on Bon Portage Island, participants will be cohorted into small groups for sleeping arrangements, and the majority of activities will take place outdoors where good distancing practices can be maintained.
Physical Distancing & Masks: All programming and activities will follow NS Public Health guidelines for physical distancing. When possible, a minimum of 6-ft physical distance will be maintained by campers. Non-medical face masks will be required during activities where physical distancing may be a challenge, or during portions of activities that take place indoors. Participants may bring their own masks. Disposable masks will also be readily available for participants and volunteers. Masks must be worn over both the mouth AND nose when in use.
Hands-on Learning: Participants will be given individual materials when possible to reduce exchange of materials between individuals. Materials that need to be shared will be disinfected thoroughly between use, and participants will adhere to hand-washing/sanitizing routines when taking part in hands-on learning activities.
Pre-screening: Parents of participants will be required to review and sign our COVID-19 Protocols Contract, which outlines all public health measures/requirements in place for Nova Scotia 2021 summer camps. This contract also outlines Terranaut Club-specific protocols for physical distancing, sanitizing, COVID pre-screening, and non-medical mask use. Once participants have been accepted into a program, the COVID-19 Protocols Contract must be reviewed and signed by a parent/guardian, acknowledging that all necessary protocols will be followed by participants. This contract must be sent to terranautclub@gmail.com no later than July 2nd.
Day-of Screening: Protocols will be reviewed again with parents/guardians and participants at drop-off each day, along with specific screening questions pertaining to any travel outside the province, potential exposures, and monitoring for COVID-19 symptoms. Any participants exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms will not be permitted entry into our programs. Monitoring for symptoms will also take place over the duration of each program.
All Terranant Club COVID-19 protocols and restrictions are subject to change, and any updates to these requirements will strictly adhere to NS Public Health safety guidelines and measures.
