Activities

  • Designing and building baited remote underwater video systems (BRUVs), we’ll monitor local marine life and review the video footage
  • Dissecting locally-sourced invasive chain pickerel and analyzing their stomach contents with our friends at Coastal Action
  • Setting fish traps and quadrat sampling for marine vegetation, we’ll learn about different ways to sample marine life
  • Going on a whale watching expedition with our friends at Lunenburg Whale Watching, we’ll learn about whale, seabird, and seal identification
  • Practicing our scientific drawing skills, we’ll work with fascinating preserved specimens and learn about their anatomy 
  • Swimming and snorkeling in the shallow bay at the Morton Centre
  • Coding on computers, we’ll learn about how coding and technology is used in marine conservation and we’ll use specialized hardware to study water quality and environmental data
  • And more!

Eligibility

This program is open to girls and under-represented genders ages 12-15 who live in the Maritime provinces (NB, NS, PEI). Participants from other areas are welcome to apply for our wait list.

How To Apply

Participants must be nominated by an adult that knows them well, including parents/guardians, by May 10th.
