Activities
- Touring and getting hands-on with endangered Atlantic salmon at a local fish hatchery
- Dissecting squid, we’ll learn about invertebrate anatomy, use the ink to make paintings, and make graphs using the data we collect
- Swimming and snorkeling at Lumsdens Dam
- Taking water samples, we’ll learn about water quality monitoring and look at microorganisms under a microscope
- Learning to camp, we’ll set up our own tents and talk about the important to-do’s of sleeping outside
- Learning about gender equity in the STEM fields and why diversity is so important
- Learning about careers in marine biology and what it’s like to study marine biology at college and university
Eligibility
This program is open to girls and under-represented genders ages 9-12 who live in the Maritime provinces (NB, NS, PEI). Participants from other areas are welcome to apply for our wait list.
How To Apply
Participants must be nominated by an adult that knows them well, including parents/guardians. The first round of nominations is open until May 9th, after which nominations are accepted on a rolling basis.
